Happy hump day! Work outfits can sometimes present a challenge, especially if like me you’re not a natural early bird! Despite this I love to style them as you get to try looks that in all likelihood you would never wear if you didn’t have to dress smartly. There’s nothing quite like dressing in an outfit that just makes you feel (and look) ready for anything. This is what fashion is about after all; It’s a creative expression that combines both who you are and who you want to be.
Today I had a busy day coming up so I went with this simple all black ensemble. Sometimes minimalistic styling is just the best way to create a look, and black is often the answer to this. Black is the ultimate expression of minimalistic style and power dressing – think Coco Chanel, Jacky O, Audrey Hepburn or Claire Underwood in terms of inspo here. But, this doesn’t mean that you need to lose your sense of feminism, textures can add this just as well as colour. This soft, floaty blouse combined with cigarette pants and heels expresses both a sense of professionalism and my softer, more girly side. The yellow, statement necklace adds another touch of feminism to the outfit as well as being a great pop of colour. Jewellery is a neat trick for adding your personality to a look, and it really does pull everything together – accessories are important!
I added a black trench to this for walking to and from the office. The trench is and always will be the perfect Spring coat, especially for wearing to work. It’s smart, it’s chic, and it oozes a sense of French style that, let’s face it, we all want. In short a trench is the coat to buy if you only buy one coat this season. They are a true investment piece that will traverse the years and leave you wondering how you once coped without one.
How do you like to do professional style without losing your femininity?
